Why Our Bottles Are "Black" Glass

Updated: Jan 18, 2021

Our glass bottles, while black in appearance, are actually violet. The biophotonic glass has unique properties that protect our products from the harmful effects of light, while also increasing our product's shelf life. Products in clear containers find themselves degrading quicker when exposed to sunlight. Our bottles filter out the damaging rays of the visible light spectrum, but also allows portions of the UVA and infrared light waves into the bottle. This tends to keep the products inside fresher for an extended period of time. It also allows us to refrain from the typical artificial preservatives one finds in beauty and skincare products.

We also consider the bottle's luxurious appearance as an added benefit. The almost black, dark violet color is the result of a patented mix of mineral oxides and silica. Violet glass can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians. Oils and natural healing ointments were kept in either gold or violet glass vessels.

We encourage our customers to find creative ways to re-use them to help in creating less waste which is harmful for the environment. Please share your thoughts on re-using your bottles with us! Also, look out in the future for a variety of black glass bottles for purchase to fit all your household needs. We at Modeun love color coordinated bottles and jars.
